Duxbury Beach Clean-ups
It's that time again - the Duxbury Beach Spring Sweep is coming on March 19th, 10am - 1pm! Please register online and bring clean-up supplies from home. We'll provide the dumpster and DBR volunteers will be on the beach to answer questions.
Planning for the Day:
A few things to remember so that you’re comfortable & safe:
Please bring a container for trash and gloves from home
It is always cooler at the beach, so bring layers
Note: there are no restrooms available at the beach
Bring water and snacks
From Duxbury: access via the Powder Point Bridge.
From Marshfield/north: access via Canal St to Gurnet St. and drive south past the Pavilion to the main, paved lot near the Powder Point Bridge
When You Arrive:
If you have a current ORV permit: please access the beach at the open crossovers.
Remember that driving and parking above the posts is not allowed (between the posts & dune).
If you are signed up for General Beach Clean-up (you do not have an ORV permit):
You can park in the large paved lot (east end of Powder Point Bridge) and walk onto the beach OR
If you’d like to & your car is able, drive down the sand road and park in the pullouts to access the beach or bayside. Please use paths, do not walk over the dunes. Do not park in the road or on crossovers.
If you see trash in the dunes or marsh, please enter carefully and leave promptly. Do not walk around on dunes or in the marsh.
If you see large items, mark the location with a rock on the nearest post and we will remove later.
Please bring all trash to the dumpster in the large paved parking lot (at the east end of the Powder Point Bridge) or leave along the road for pickup.
It’s important to remove small pieces of plastic as they continue to break down and become microplastics - so small that they are eaten by fish, birds, and other animals
If you find sharps (needles), do not pick up. Contact us and someone will come get it.
Feel free to spread out along the beach or bayside. Again, do not stroll through the dunes or marsh searching for trash.
Please leave all natural items (driftwood, etc.) on the beach. Pick up only man-made trash.
Groups: If you are registering for a larger group or as part of a larger group, please indicate the group name on your registration so we can help coordinate a meet-up site and direct the group to a section of the beach that needs your help.
